Fitting in some exercise when you are travelling for long periods of time can be pretty challenging. Sure, you may be doing a lot of walking and exploring new places, but is that enough? For me, I know a little more targeted exercise is needed, so we have come up with a fun idea to keep us fit while we travel full time around Oz – all while embracing our new nomadic lifestyle.
It’s called the Alphabet Workout and it’s pretty straightforward – you simply spell out the name of the town you are in and do the exercises that match the letters.
Two months ago we sold our home and everything we owned to live in our caravan to be full-time nomads. We are pleased to say we have enjoyed some downtime and indulged a little – especially as we are currently travelling Tasmania, the foodie state!! With Cheeses and Chocolate and Wine! Oh my!!!! It’s been a wonderful road trip full of overindulging and food comas! …But now, it’s time to get real and step out of ‘holiday mode’ a little.
It’s easy as A,B,C !!
While we travel we have been spelling out the name of the town we are in to create a workout! We aim to do this about twice a week. If we have an active week of surfing or hiking we strip it back to once a week – Simple. We also love to add a bit of yoga into the mix when we can too! Our mini Blondies love to be involved and join in too!
Keeping to a routine is important so we plan to keep our workouts to set days, e.g. Mondays and Wednesdays. This also means we can’t cheat and pick a shorter word/town to spell!
… so, where are you this week? is it Cue, Berrima or Woolloomooloo (ouch!)? Let’s have some fun together and keep fit while doing it!! Where are you today? What’s your workout?
We are in a town called Strahan on the west coast of Tasmania so our workout is –
- 30 Burpees
- 15 Squats
- 15 Push ups
- 20 Jumping jacks or side taps
- 20 Squats
- 30 Step ups x30 right, x30 left
- 10 Push ups
Note: If a certain exercise is not suitable simply replace it with something else. If you do not know what it is, jump on google/youtube for a demonstration.
Are you travelling full time? Simply save this post to your phone, save or screenshot the Alphabet Workout image above or share it on your timeline so you can find it again and join us for a fun way to keep fit on the road!

What a great idea! I agree that it’s really challenging to keep up with an exercise routine while traveling full-time. But this is a simple way to keep things on track and interesting!
