There’s nothing more rewarding than taking the kids on a fishing adventure and watching their eyes light up when they reel in that HUGE (or not so huge) fish!
Here’s a few ‘fishing with kids’ basics to help inspire you to get outside and enjoy some time with your family. Scroll below to watch the movie.
What to use
There’s two main ways to catch a fish using bait or a lure. You can purchase frozen bait or catch it fresh yourself. We like to head out and pump for Yabbies to use as bait – the kids love the adventure and the fish can’t resist them. With a simple rig consisting of a circle hook and a small sinker we bait the hook and cast out – and if there is fish around, it’s not long until we have a bite!
Mix it up
If your little ones are anything like ours, they can get distracted easy so to keep them interested we switch it up on them and pop a lure on the rod. This allows them to cast and wind in as much as they like. With any adventure with kids we also take along loads of food and snacks as well as other water based toys that might keep them happy like hand nets, buckets and spades etc.

My best memories with my dad we were fishing! I’m still addicted to it now and whenever I go out fishing I always think how excited he would be if he was still around to see what I caught. Thanks for sharing this post with us!
